Design 70 House Addition
A new addition to an existing house designed by Architects Cocks & Carmichael on the Mornington Peninsula.
The original design faced north, with the living spaces facing the sun and the bedroom to the rear. The house was built the other way around. The new addition creates a sense of entry with a large courtyard space for an exotic garden of tranquillity.
The addition turned the corner to frame views across the landscaped site stepping down a gentle slope. Large north and east windows soak up the morning sun.
The kitchen acts as the hinge from the old to the new, with direct access to the kitchen garden to the south. It overlooks the living room and out to the park-like setting.
Materials: Cavity brick to match the existing. Steel framed windows. Galvanised corrugated roofing. Fibre-cement linings and soffits.
